DuPont's Tyvek materials provide protection

In response to the demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) in the fight against COVID-19, DuPont's Tyvek materials saw unprecedented global demand in 2020, prompting the company to increase investment and improvements in the material.

In April 2020, DuPont launched the TyvekTogether program to increase the overall supply of Tyvek personal protective clothing to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep health care workers safe. The initiative aims to get other companies on board to protect more frontline responders, adding up to 6 million additional non-surgical barrier suits per month to the market. This plan includes investments in equipment and technology at DuPont's Richmond, VA., facility, which has significantly increased global production of Tyvek and Tychem garments to meet the growing demand for PPE. In addition, the #TyvekTogether project will also launch new dedicated Tyvek fabrics in order to increase the production of COVID-19 clothing to 15 million units per month.

Tyvek style 1222A's barrier protection is similar to DuPont Tyvek 400 apparel, DuPont's core product, and can adjust fabric drape and feel to optimize material use. Available in roll-pack form for existing and new customers with cut-and-sew capabilities to increase the supply of Tyvek garments as quickly as possible. DuPont's Tyvek business is part of the company's Safety and Construction division. In the second quarter earnings call, the business unit reported that demand for Tyvek protective clothing increased by 60% over the same period last year by increasing production capacity and adjusting supply in the non-personal protection market. While Tyvek's protective clothing market performed strongly, other business areas, including construction in Tyvek's traditional key markets, declined due to the impact of home-based requirements around the world.
